“I am the second oldest of eight children, and my older sister, Manhad, and I go to Emory together. When we go home for the weekends, everyone in the family is so excited to greet us. It gets crazy sometimes – with ten loud people dancing around the house. Yes, dancing! We literally have dance parties. It all starts with my seventeen year old brother, Mohamed, playing music on his stereo downstairs. He always manages to come upstairs with the stereo and within minutes, kids from all over the house come together in the living room, straight to the source of the hip hop. Soon, my dad jumps in and convinces my mom to join. MashAllah – their moves never fail to impress us. It’s a family-wide competition to keep up! Dad always wins (because he never stops dancing, and he thinks that’s how you win).” – Musbah Hashi
Bio: My name is Musbah Hashi. I am a first year student at Emory College and I’m planning on pursuing a degree in nursing. I hope to become a neonatal nurse practitioner and to extend my medical services to communities in need. In my free time, I like to compose my own songs and perform them for my friends to make them laugh. I own too many hijabs, laugh too hard, and smile too much (but it’s Sunnah).
